Yandex’s current statistics for December 28 give almost 23,000 impressions per month for New Year’s Peter. This is 9,000 more than a year ago. Tourdom.ru and tour operators have confirmed the increased interest in New Year trips to St. Petersburg.
Sergey Romashkin, the head of the Dolphin tour operator, said that the demand for tours to the Northern Capital increased by 25-30% over the year, and by 30-35% for New Year dates compared to 2022. Tourists are mainly interested in 2—3-day sightseeing programs. The most popular routes are: a sightseeing tour of the city, visits to the Hermitage, Tsarskoye Selo, and Petrodvorets in Peterhof.
Oksana Bulakh, Commercial Director of Aleana, also notes an increase in interest in traveling to St. Petersburg in winter. According to her, tourists book not only tours from the tour operator, but also separate accommodation in the city, since there are now quite a few flights to the Northern Capital at affordable prices — many people buy tickets on their own. The average length of a winter vacation is 4-5 days; for a longer period, tourists from remote regions usually travel for a longer period of time in order to cover more during the trip. Vacation programs aimed at families with children are in high demand: visits to various interactive museums and New Year’s entertainment shows. Winter tours involve a lower intensity of excursions than in summer. For the comfort of tourists during the cold season, they try to plan fewer outdoor excursions and more visits to museums. As for new locations, back in the summer, travel agencies began to include New Holland, an island in St. Petersburg, in their programs, where a beautiful public space with a park, art objects, and food courts is located. In winter, excursions are usually not arranged there, but tourists can visit the island on their own.
