20 easy ways to make every day better

Sometimes you want to distract yourself during a break or just take some free time. At times like these, it’s easy to be tempted to pick up your phone, play a series, or go to an online store. But none of this is likely to regain strength. Blogger Trent Hamm advises filling free parts of the day with simple things that somehow improve life. He himself does a couple of items from the list during his work break, and does more on weekends.

1. Sit outside for 5-10 minutes without any distractions

Find a comfortable place with a good view. Take a bottle of water or a cup of coffee with you, but leave your phone. Just look around and notice the little things. For example, watch a child learn to ride a bike. Or feel the warmth of the sun’s rays on your skin. This way you will feel connected to the world around you.

2. Take a walk around the area

Walking is a great type of low-intensity workout. It will help you cheer up and improve blood circulation. And the fresh air, sunshine and the opportunity to explore the area will energize you.

3. Take a walk in the park

This combines the benefits of a short walk with being in nature. Such forest baths soothe and improve health.

4. Have a glass of water

All body systems need water. It will help you cheer up and muffle hunger.

5. Do a short stretch

After it, you will feel more relaxed and agile. You can also combine stretching with listening to a podcast or audiobook. Just don’t forget to warm up before that. Run on the spot or jump.

6. Get out of the car

Over time, garbage accumulates in the cabin: wrappers, empty bottles, bags, checks, dirt from shoes, dust on the windows. All this does not make you feel comfortable in the car. Throw away the trash, vacuum the floor, wipe the dashboard. It will be much more pleasant to get in the car now.

7. Eat something healthy

For example, a fruit or a vegetable. This is especially nice outdoors. Take a banana or apple with you and sit outside as described in the first paragraph.

8. Document a day in your life

At regular intervals, take pictures of things around you or what you do. For example, every 15 minutes, half an hour, or an hour. Then put all the photos of the day into one folder and add descriptions to them. This in itself is exciting, and you’ll also wonder what you’re spending your time on. It is also very interesting to view such photos after a couple of months. A completely ordinary day will turn into a memorable event.

9. Help someone without expecting anything in return

Bring a heavy bag, do something useful for your neighbors or just a stranger. It won’t take long, but you’ll feel much better.

10. Collect things you don’t use to donate to charity

Take a big bag and put everything you don’t use anymore in it. Some people might still find these things useful. This way you will free up space at home and help others at the same time.

11. Read an excerpt from a smart book

Get a book on a topic you’ve been interested in for a long time. Read a few pages a day and think about the information. This way you will learn the material gradually and let the ideas settle in your head.

12. Do something that has haunted you for a long time

Everyone has a list of things we’re putting off. For example, fix the faucet or clean the bathroom. Pick one thing and do it. If you can’t make it all at once, at least start. You’ll move forward and things will get a little easier.

13. Thank someone who has helped you recently

If something useful or pleasant has been done for you, take a couple of minutes and express your gratitude. Write a message and thank the person sincerely. It’s good to know your help is appreciated.

14. Have a small picnic

Turn a walk around the area into a little adventure. Take something tasty with you, find a comfortable seat and eat outside. Don’t pick up your phone so you don’t get distracted. Relax and enjoy your meal.

15. Concentrate on breathing for 5 minutes

Close your eyes and focus on inhaling and exhaling. If you are distracted by any thoughts, go back to breathing. This will help you cope with anxiety, give you a sense of control and peace of mind. The effect is not always immediately noticeable, but it works wonders in the long run.

16. Take a long shower or soak in the tub

We usually perform this procedure automatically, ignoring the sensations. This time, take your time, enjoy a bath and wash yourself thoroughly. You will be more alert and energetic.

17. Do some simple exercises with your own body weight

It is enough to work out for 10-15 minutes. You will warm up, and your brain will release endorphins. Immediately after such a warm-up, your mood will improve, and over time, your physical shape will also improve.

18. Prepare something special

More often than not, we cook simple meals. This time, take more time to make yourself and your loved ones happy with something special. For example, before frying meat, hold it for an hour or two in the marinade. It’s not difficult, but the finished dish will have a rich taste. And you will see that you can also eat delicious food at home.

19. Think of something you’re thankful for

Think about what makes your life better. It could be anything: a loved one, a good book, your favorite chair, or just sunny weather. Think about it for a few minutes and you’ll feel happier.

20. Spend 15 minutes cleaning

Throw away the trash and put things in their places. Even this is enough to make your home more comfortable. It is not necessary to tidy up the entire apartment. Clean your kitchen or workplace and you’ll already notice the difference. In the process, you’ll probably find things that used to inspire and make you happy, but then you forgot about them. Give them a second chance.
